Differences Between Ceramic Tube Fuses and Glass Tube Fuses

The main difference in appearance lies in the material of the tube: one is made of glass, while the other is made of ceramic. In terms of functionality, glass-tube fuses have poorer explosion-proof performance, whereas ceramic-tube fuses offer better protection against explosions.
Ceramic fuses are invisible when they blow, whereas glass-tube fuses are visible; ceramic fuses are less prone to rupture, while glass-tube fuses are more easily broken.
Ceramic fuses are rated for higher overcurrents than glass-tube fuses. The quartz sand inside the ceramic body helps to cool the arc and extinguish it; therefore, a glass-tube fuse should never be substituted for a ceramic fuse when the current exceeds the fuse’s rated capacity. Conversely, substituting a ceramic fuse for a glass-tube fuse will also compromise its protective function. All fuses operate on the thermal effect, and ceramic fuses offer superior heat dissipation, allowing them to handle higher currents than glass-tube fuses. Ceramic fuses are typically used in circuits with larger currents, whereas glass-tube fuses are generally employed in circuits with smaller currents.
Can the two fuses be used interchangeably?

Ceramic fuses are rated for higher overcurrents than glass-tube fuses. The quartz sand inside the ceramic body helps to cool and extinguish the arc; therefore, if the current exceeds the fuse’s rated capacity, a glass-tube fuse must not be substituted for a ceramic one. Conversely, substituting a ceramic fuse for a glass-tube fuse will also compromise its protective function. Thus, if a glass-tube fuse fails, it must be replaced with an identical glass-tube fuse of the original specification. Do not, out of convenience or because you believe a ceramic fuse is superior, substitute a ceramic fuse instead—doing so may result in incompatibility and damage, which poses a significant safety risk.

The specifications for ceramic tube fuses are not interchangeable with those for glass tube fuses. For fuses of the same amperage rating, the melting speed is the same, meaning they can be used interchangeably.
